Explore Zurich by bike – for free!

One of the most enjoyable – and economical – ways to experience Zurich is by bike. Whether you’re a visitor eager to soak up the city’s sights or a local looking for a convenient way to get around, hopping on a bicycle offers a flexible and eco-friendly mode of transportation. Thanks to Züri Rollt, Zurich’s free bike rental program, accessing a bike is as simple as showing up with your ID.
Where to find it
Züri Rollt operates out of a dedicated underground bicycle parking area just a short walk from Zurich’s Hauptbahnhof (main train station). The access ramp is located on Kasernenstrasse, right next to the Sihl River and across from the post office.
Hours and availability
The bike station is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 9.30 pm. From March through October, you can also rent bikes on Sundays between 8 am and 5.30 pm, making it ideal for weekend explorers during the warmer months.
How it works
To rent a bike, all you need is a valid ID and a CHF 20 deposit. The standard rental is free for the day, as long as you return the bike by closing time. For those planning multi-day use, Züri Rollt offers overnight rentals for just CHF 10 per night, allowing you to keep the bike with you and avoid daily check-ins.
If you’re looking for a little extra boost, e-bikes are available for CHF 30 per day.
Why bike?
Zurich is a bike-friendly city with well-marked lanes, scenic riverside routes, and a compact urban layout that makes cycling both practical and enjoyable. Plus, a bike gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. Just don’t get stuck in the tram tracks!
